my setup: Dell Dimension 4300, Pentium4 1.5 Ghz, 512 MB RAM, GEFORCE 2 video card, trying to use Audigy 2 Platinum. As far as what I'm using it for, purely music-creation. I get the "squeal-of-death" consistently about 20-30 seconds after launching the Cubasis VST 4.0 that comes with the soundcard.

I have successfully installed the Audigy 2 soundcard with all the programs. But I got No sound on rear speakers. The front speakers connected to OUT-1 are OK. I have read many posts on this subject and many people who got the same problem, but still no solution. I got Windows 2000 SP3.
